Additional names
- Spotted Blue-Eye, Gertrude's Blue-Eye
Sexing[edit]
- Males have more dramatic fins and brighter colouration than females.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- This fish does best in groups of at least 6 or more, more females than males. Due to their small size they do not do well in community set ups. Can be kept with small peaceful fish such as dwarf and pygmy Corydoras, small Tetras and Rasboras.
Diet[edit]
- Will accept most small foods including pellet and flake as well as live/frozen foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- These fish do best in acidic conditions and a spacious mature planted and well filtered tank. A lid is recommended as these fish are mid-top dwellers and may jump.
Behaviour[edit]
- An active and peaceful mid-top dwelling fish.
Identification[edit]
- A small and slender fish with large baby blue iridescent eyes, giving them their common name. The body is green-yellow in colour while the fins have blue iridescence and spotting.
