These fish are a staple of most aquarium shops. They will be stocked as they're hardy, sell well, easy to find from suppliers, breed well in captivity and cheap to keep and feed.
Be aware that with some common and very common fish they may also have deformities from being inbred, or be sick. Neon Tetras are an example of this as they are now not as hardy as they used to be and can also carry Neon Tetra Disease.
