Sexing[edit]
- Juveniles are difficult to sex, but mature males will have a modified anal fin as well as thicker dorsal and pectoral fin spines. There are no reports of this fish being bred in captivity.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- A relatively shy and peaceful fish, do not keep with aggressive or territorial fish.. Can be kept with others of it's own kind provided the housing is large and plenty of hiding places are provided. Can also be kept in a catfish only tank with smaller and larger companions of different species.
Diet[edit]
- Will accept most sinking foods including sinking wafers and pellets as well as bloodworm and shrimp.
Feeding regime[edit]
- A nocturnal fish best fed once a day after the tank lights are off. Will also feed during the day. This fish is adapted to surface feeding as well as bottom feeding and will take floating food sticks.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Provide this fish with a large tank with plenty of hiding places and caves. It does not appreciate bright lights, so dim lighting and floating plants as well as bogwood caves is preferable. A mature tank is best for this fish.
Behaviour[edit]
- A shy large fish that will spend a lot of time hiding. It will defend it's chosen hiding place/cave fiercely if confronted by tank mates.
Identification[edit]
- Can be confused with Liosomadoras morrowi. The markings on this fish are striking and lend well to it's common name in that they are very much similar to that of the Jaguar.
