Origin[edit]
- Widespread across Africa, from Senegal to Sudan.
Sexing[edit]
- Males generally have longer and more pointed fins, while females have shorter and more rounded ones.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- These are sociable fish that appreciate company of their own. They are peaceful and will do fine with other small peaceful tank mates. Because this fish is very small, they can be easily eaten by larger fish so do not keep with anything predatory or aggressive such as Angelfish.
Diet[edit]
- Will take most foods including pellet and flake as well as live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Prefers a spacious tank with dense planting in which to hide. They do not like exceptionally bright light, and dimmed light combined with pale coloured substrate will bring out their distinctive eyes.
Behaviour[edit]
- Peaceful and shoaling, will spend the majority of time in the middle of the water column swimming together. Will hide if threatened.
Identification[edit]
- Small fish with little colour, mainly a pale green/yellow with hints of blue, they get their common name from their bright blue eyes.
