Tank compatibility[edit]
- The Rock bass has an relatively peaceful disposition and can be easily out-competed in a tank of aggressors, i.e. those related Centrarchids with genus Lepomis.
Diet[edit]
- Live foods work best. Worms, grubs, and insects are readily accepted. Rock bass have a large mouth to body size ratio and will feed on smaller fishes given the opportunity. They should avoid being fed feeder fish however.

- Depending on chosen diet, one to two times a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Rock bass need freshwater of a temperate temperature. They prefer a demersal lifestyle.
Behaviour[edit]
- Being fairly shy, they like to be able to hide. They need cracks and crevices and will often use these hiding areas to stage ambushes from.
Identification[edit]
- The Rock bass is a rather un-remarkable fish. They resemble a typical sunfish in body shape and size, however they possess a large mouth and will always have a red iris around the pupil of the eye. They are brown-to-green in colour.
