Origin[edit]
- Eastern Atlantic: Ascension, Cape Verde, and Azores; ranges south to southern Angola. Western Atlantic: Canada to Massachusetts, USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to southeastern Brazil
Sexing[edit]
- Not sexually dimorphic.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- Keep only with fish that can stand its aggression. It is definitely not a fish for the average large marine tank. It will eat any inverts and may damage corals.
Diet[edit]
- This fish requires meaty foods including shrimp, squid and scallops.

- Feed daily.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Requires an extremely large mature marine set up, larger than most can manage. At least 1514-1893 Litres (400-500 US G.) for an adult fish.
Behaviour[edit]
- Quite territorial; keep only with fish that can handle the aggression; best not kept with crustaceans.
Identification[edit]
- A large oval fish which is greenish or bluish gray on back, orange-yellow on lower part of head and abdomen, with two broad diagonal curved bright blue bands running from snout to below and in front of pectoral fins, the lowermost continuous with a blue ring around lips; a broad blue bar across caudal peduncle, and blue sub-marginal bands in median fins.
