Sexing[edit]
- There are currently no known external sexual characteristics.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- This fish is not compatible with other fish of its own species, will otherwise be relatively peaceful towards larger fish. Do not keep with fin nippers or aggressive fish.
Diet[edit]
- This fish will accept some prepared foods such as Tubifex and mosquito larvae. In the wild this fish will typically eat aquatic insects and their larvae. When the fish is first introduced to the tank it will remain near the bottom of the tank until it becomes acclimated. After the fish is acclimated it will approach the top of the tank to accept food.
Environment specifics[edit]
- This fish requires a large number of hiding places to be provided. If the tank is to brightly lit the fish will only come out at night.
Behaviour[edit]
- Fairly intolerant of other fish of the same species.
Identification[edit]
- The body is very long with a very slender section preceding the tail. The fish has a small cylindrical snout with a visible lower lip. The fish is typically a dare blue-black of a brownish-violet. A deep black triangular patch between the dorsal fin and the anal fins.
