Sexing[edit]
- Males have more vibrant colouration than females.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- A small shoaling fish that is generally peaceful, should be kept in groups of at least 5-6 of its own kind.
Diet[edit]
- Should accept most foods including pellets and flake, live/frozen foods and occasional blanched vegetables.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Ideally requires a spacious sub-tropical/coldwater set up. Unlike Goldfish, these fish are planted tank safe. Prefers alkaline conditions.

- An active shoaling fish.
Identification[edit]
- A small cyprinid with a deep body shape rather like a silvery tetra. Males are turquoise blue with a distinct black stripe running through the caudal peduncle onto the tail fin; they have a red flash on the top of the iris and red and black bands on the anal fin. Females are similar, but with yellowy fins and less blue on the body. The black band on the caudal peduncle is thinner and runs further forward, well onto the back half of the flank.
