Tank compatibility[edit]
- Usually reef safe. Can be aggressive to other fish, do not keep with smaller timid fish, and keep only one Six-Line Wrasse to a tank.
Diet[edit]
- Microfaunae Hunter; spends its day searching rockwork for Isopods, Amphipods, Copepods, tiny brittle starfish, and other microfaunae. Will accept thawed frozen foods, such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp.
- Sixlines are often sought after for their tendency to eat bothersome flatworms and bristle worms.
Feeding regime[edit]
- In a tank with sufficient microfaunae population, no feeding is necessary. If an insufficient food source is available in the tank, supplement the diet with thawed or fresh brine or mysis shrimp. This fish eats continuously during the day.
Behaviour[edit]
- Active swimmer; patrols the tank searching for food to hunt. When it finds prey too large to swallow whole through its small mouth, will grab the prey with its mouth and tug violently towards the left or right to tear part off the prey.
- Its ability to turn sharply gives the fish a tactical advantage against potential bullies. When a bully attempts to snap at its tail, the Sixline can quickly turn to fight back.
- Mature specimens can be very aggressive to other fish, given insufficient space or food.
Identification[edit]
- An attractive fish with a blue-purple body with 6 bright orange horizontal stripes. It also has red eyes with two white horizontal through them.
