Sexing[edit]
- Males are more slender than females with more yellow colouration in the anal fin.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- This fish should be kept in shoals of 5 or more. They do well in a medium-sized peaceful community set up, but should not be kept with very shy fish or long-finned fish, nor with very small fish or fry.
Diet[edit]
- They will accept most foods including pellet and flake and live/frozen food such as bloodworm and brine shrimp.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- These fish must have a tank with secure lid as they are known to jump if startled. They do best in a planted tank with equal amounts of hiding places and open swimming space, and soft acidic water is preferred.
Behaviour[edit]
- An active and fast-swimming shoaling fish.
Identification[edit]
- An elongate fish with similar body shape to other larger Rasboras. Body relatively colourless but highly iridescent and a thin yellow horizontal line down the lateral line, and the scale margins are highlighted by reticulated melanin pattern. The caudal fin is red with black tips to each caudal lobe.
