Sexing[edit]
- Mature females will be more full in the abdomen.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- A very active and potentially aggressive nippy fish that is best in either a species tank or with other similar-tempered Loaches. It's best to keep these Loaches in groups of at least 5 of their own kind.
Diet[edit]
- Not an overly fussy eater and will eat most sinking pellets, live/frozen food such as brine shrimp and bloodworm. Will also eat soft blanched vegetables and adults will gladly eat raw shrimp.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day, preferably near to or after lights out.
Environment specifics[edit]
- These fish appreciated a matured, well filtered tank and, as they originate from fast flowing streams, appreciate a strong current. Substrate should be a mix of soft sand and larger boulders with caves provided.
Behaviour[edit]
- A very active nocturnal fish that can be aggressive and nippy. Keeping one alone can cause the fish to be reclusive, stressed and will not survive long, these fish must have company of their own kind. It is capable of making very loud clicking sounds during interactions or feeding.
Identification[edit]
- Typical Loach in shape, similar to the Clown Loach, the body is iridescent silver-yellow in colour with red/orange in the fins. It has several barbels surrounding the mouth. Juveniles have dark vertical bars along the flanks. This Loach can be mistaken for Yasuhikotakia modesta and Yasuhikotakia lecontei.
